What is BLUE-BOND?

BLUE-BOND is a passive optical enhancement that greatly improves the performance of LCD and Plasma panels in high ambient light environments. BLUE-BOND accomplishes this by sealing two components, the display and a specially treated overlay, together using an optically compliant silicone gel. The overlay, generally glass with an anti-reflective (AR) coating, minimizes reflections from the front of the unit. This, of course, would cause more problems than it solved if the two were simply mounted together, as the reflection from the rear edge of the overlay coupled with the reflection from the front of the display panel would only compound the original problem. To counter this, we sandwich a layer of silicone between the two components, eliminating the air gap between the display and the overlay, virtually eliminating reflection from the rear of the overlay and the panel itself.
What benefits does BLUE-BOND impart?
BLUE-BOND:
- Enhances panel contrast and nit brightness while reducing ambient light washout and providing sunlight readability.
- Enhances the ruggedness of your display allowing superior performance against vibration, shock, and other environmental extremes.
- Can be used with anti-reflective glass, infra-red glass, plexiglass, or any type of touch screen currently available.
- Is more cost-effective than other available display enhancements.
- Process is safer and provides longer panel life than active enhancements involving enhanced back lighting.
- Can be used with back light enhancements to improve panel performance above and beyond what active enhancement can achieve alone.
- Utilizes materials that can be reworked, allowing us to rework units and therefore provide higher product yield for the money.
Why not simply apply AR coatings directly to the panel or use a different type of enhancement?
For LCD and plasma panels, the processes required to apply anti-reflective and other coatings can damage or severely degrade the panel and its performance. As for alternative enhancements, the two main varieties involve internal film enhancements and back light enhancements. Film enhancements will brighten the display, but require corresponding adjustments in contrast ratio to maintain readability while doing nothing to protect the panel or prevent further ambient light reflection problems. Backlighting enhancements again provide greater display brightness, but combine the problems of film enhancement with higher cost, thermal issues, and shortened back light life.
